One fab Day

Confetti Wedding Magazine INDUSTRY insider

This issue, Confetti chats to wedding band, A Few Good Men, to find out what makes them tick...

How was A Few Good Men born?

“It was a gradual thing - back in 2007, we had been playing pubs and clubs for a few years and at most of the gigs we played, somebody would always ask ‘do you play
at weddings?’ So, we started with a few weddings, until the amount of weddings we were doing was more than pubs and clubs.”

Who are you all?

“We are a four-piece band based in Dublin and have been together for more than 10 years. Individually, we have been playing music professionally for more than 20 years with many different bands and recording artists, including some sessions with David Gray, Aslan, and Laura Izibor.”

What makes you different?

“We comprise of some of the best professional musicians in Ireland, and we’re the only band with a dedicated lead singer, who is one of the best high-energy harmonica players around, and is now adding Tenor Saxophone to the mix. The band play with an energy and vigour rarely seen in a wedding band, and the passion we have for music and the performance is plain to see.”

What’s your best advice for a couple choosing their wedding band?

“It’s important that you really like the band and are excited about the music. Try to keep in mind the musical taste and generational range of your guests. It’s your day, but the people who are there to celebrate it with you may not like three hours of Frank Sinatra or Rage Against The Machine. We aim to cater for everyone in the room, young and old.”

What say you to people who think they don’t need (gasp!) a band?

“We meet couples years after we have played at their wedding, and they’ve told us that their friends and family still talk about how good the entertainment was. The dress and the band seem to be what people remember most, and a professional band will create a great atmosphere and memories for all.”

Tell us something they don’t tell you about wedding planning?

“Don’t get bogged down with rehearsed routines for the first dance and being disappointed that one of you missed a step - enjoy the moment. Try to be punctual for the meal and keep your speeches short - the later the band gets on, the shorter your night will seem.”

Where can we see you?

“We showcase at least once a month in Dublin, and post the dates on our website and facebook page, so stay tuned!”

One Of The Coolest Wedding Bands In Ireland”

LOVIN DUBLIN

Tony Christie Can Feck Right Off:
Because ‘Is This The Way To Amarillo?’ makes us want to punch ourselves in the face…
Nothing kills a wedding quicker than a dodgy band. A wedding is basically a big party where you and your guests want to rock out with some serious tunes. You don't want to listen to someone else's favourite songs, you want to hear the kind of songs you'd actually listen to yourselves on a night out.
Sure we know that Nana loves a waltz, but tough, it's your wedding day! Harsh? Maybe – sorry Nana! Fair? As long as you're not blaring Cradle of Filth and Slipknot all night, I think so...
Here's our pick of the best wedding bands in the country right now..
A Few Good Men
‘Was my band any good? I want the truth!’ ‘You can't handle the truth!’ Avoid this situation by booking these guys. Expect hits ranging from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s from the likes of Chuck Berry, Depeche Mode, Adele, Pharrell Williams, Avicii and the Arctic Monkeys.
